Will David O. Russell's Nailed Ever Happen?
You may have read about Nailed, the new film by David O. Russell, when the news broke last month that James Caan left the set over a hilarious sounding dispute with the famously pugilistic Russell (as heard by Clooney's complaints regarding the set of the classic Three Kings, and as seen in the famously leaked I Heart Huckabees freakout videos; or, if you want the short version of the Huckabees fight, check out this excellent Paul Rudd/Michael Showalter parody. Yeah, totally NSFW) over the right way to portray death by choking-on-a-cookie.Nailed made its way back into the news this weekend when SAG shut down filming thanks to the production paying the Guild insufficient funds. As reported by Deadline Hollywood Daily's Nikki Finke, the production is cash-strapped, and is also in trouble with IATSE and the Teamsters, as well as SAG. Says Finke:
"Filmmakers hope to resolve the cash crunch and re-start shooting next week since principal photography is only at the halfway point. 'I am confident we will finish,' an insider on the pic just told me. 'The financing on this like most indies is based on bank loans and bridge loans. This is a matter of waiting on the bridge loan. Hopefully, it will all be resolved.'
But new information coming my way says David Bergstein's Capitol Films behind the pic is troubled."
Nailed, co-written with former Futurama writer, daughter-of-Al Kristen Gore, originally came to life as a project based on Gore's chick lit goes to Washington D.C. novel, Sammy's Hill. While Hill is a super-enjoyable read about a neurotic health care policy wonk who dreams of universal health care, Nailed has evolved into a story about a naive small-town girl, played by Jessica Biel, who, as a result of a freak accident with a nail in her head, becomes a super-horny nympho and goes to Washington to lobby for the rights of the bizarrely injured. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a congressman who she gets entangled with, and the ever-fabulous and super handsome James Marsden is in it as well (maybe he gets the girl for once?). It sounds potentially insane, and potentially awesome. Here's hoping these disputes get resolved.
