“Shakespeare once wrote that ‘life is but a dream’ and that’s exactly how I lived my life.” So states Carson Phillips, the protagonist of Struck by Lightning, a young man who is going places…until a freak bolt of lightning kills him in the school parking lot. In the moments before his death, Carson reflects on his last year of high school and all that he hoped to accomplish in his life.

Struck by Lightning is not all doom and gloom, however. This coming-of-age dramedy, propelled by Chris Colfer’s tremendous lead performance, tracks an unusual teenager willing to do anything to achieve his goals in spite of the negativity of his peers and family. Might that involve a blackmail scheme? You’ll have to watch and find out. The film hits select theaters on January 11 or, if you’re impatient, you can rent the film on VOD or digital platforms right now.
